Q and AWith the new AP Biology Exam just over two months away, I’ve started thinking more about the new question formats.  According to the College Board, the first half of the exam will have 69 questions; 6 of these will be grid-in questions.   These questions require numerical responses and the answers must be entered into a grid on the answer sheet.

I’ve created a resource in order to prepare my students for this unique question style. You can download the worksheet by clicking on the image below.

Update: The document now includes a teacher’s guide with solutions and explanations.

    • Thanks, the methodology for the grid-in questions has not been fully addressed at this point. One can get an idea of the guidelines by looking at how they’re handled on another College Board test, the SAT. Check out this link for an idea. http://sat.collegeboard.org/img/gridInDirections.gif You can also get a basic explanation of how the grid-ins will be laid out by looking in the AP Biology course and exam description on page 125. You can find it here.

  6. Hi Jeremy, Is there any way you could email me an answer key to the math grid-in sample questions you posted? I don’t want to lead my kids in the wrong direction as we practice the math this week. I have been really weak with the math all year and am trying to finish strong! Your review sheet is really going to help! Thank you for posting it!

    • I have decided to include a teacher guide with solution and explanations. It is attached to the end of the document. I made a couple of minor edits as well. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for the feedback.

  7. Do you happen to know if the grid in questions will be worth more than the multiple choice questions?

    • Here’s a quote from a colleague of mine who is very close to the situation. “The CB has indicated that all questions in part 1 are given equal weight (about 1 point a piece).
